Crafty weekend

cork wreath

Some of you have found out the hard way (meaning you are also addicted) about Pinterest. The online bulletin board lets you “pin” photos of projects and then link back to the project instructions through a special tool on your internet browser tool bar.

It’s so addictive that sometimes I sit down for a few minutes at the computer and end up on Pinterest instead of checking my e-mail or the blog. It’s also let me pin a number of craft projects that I am going to get to, darn it! In fact, I did one last weekend. The pin shows a charming small wreath made from old corks.

Here’s my version:

I think it turned out ok. Drilling the corks was easy because years ago I scored a drill press from my grandfather. I used a clamp to hold the cork while I made two holes. If I ever do another one I’ll use either smaller beads or the bells this project suggested. The larger beads made a larger circumference that kept the interior edges from meeting.

Now the looming decision is what to do this weekend. I’m tempted by the metal stamping I’ve been seeing. There’s this bracelet:

I also have a few other cork projects to accomplish.

Oh! And there’s one other thing I did last weekend that I’ll try to show you soon. It’s pretty cool, and very easy for you to do yourself.

Happy weekend. Let me know if you want an invitation for Pinterest.

A variety of small plates, aka tapas.

Some of you have probably read where I fell in love over the summer with Cafe Souerette in West Bend. The spouse and I particularly like their Farmer’s Market Tapas dinners held once a month during the season. Last Saturday was the last one. But we didn’t go. I had emailed the spouse on Friday to [...]

Gingersnap pumpkin filled cookies

Oh, I know it’s not a good thing to be thinking food so early in the morning, (I did just have cannellini bean salad for breakfast.) but I saw this picture and I started thinking. One of my favorite fall recipes is the pumpkin cream cheese dip you have with gingersnaps. What if you made filled [...]

The grandpuppies

I am so smitten. I have grandpuppies. They showed up a few weeks ago. We sat around a summer table outside and cuddled pure happiness. Of course, that wasn’t going to last. They kind of grew. Let me dig around and find a photo… The one on the left is Sophie, short for Philosophia, and [...]

Book ideas, please

I can’t believe it, but I’m pulling out my last book-club book to read next month. I’m getting ready to look to the NY Times best seller list, but I thought I should ask you. What should I be reading? Here was the 2011 list. Let me know.
