No, there won’t be a mommyblogger photo expose on exactly how I squished ground beef into patties, but darn it, I just put burgers on the grill!
There’s hope after all. Yes, I’ve grilled a couple of times through the winter. Heck, I even paid a fortune for someone else’s basil so I could have a [...]

Out of work and where do you go for a fish fry?
February 18th, 2010 · 5 Comments
Well, I put the youngest on a plane for a trip to Disneyworld this morning. She was honored with a spot from Badgerette Pom pons to participate in the yearly outing.
I’m out of work for the next couple of days. Except for letting the dog out, I haven’t anything on my job description right [...]

In praise of Chocolate Cheerios.
February 13th, 2010 · 2 Comments
Oh my. You get 3/4 cup for 100 calories and lots of crunchy happiness.
I have a weakness for Cheerios anyway. Years ago (Ok, this is a serious too much information warning!) I realized they came back up without much change in taste. I had three pregnancies with nausea for about 7 months each. It was [...]

Lemon Bars

It’s book club tonight. We’re discussing The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery. I’ll fill you in on the discussion tomorrow.
I love hosting book club. It means I get to put all those foods on the island buffet that I might not make otherwise. Tonight’s menu includes lemon bars.

It’s a driving day
January 19th, 2010 · 1 Comment
I’m getting ready to load up the van and do a full round of errands. There should be applause around here this evening, as one stop includes the grocery store.
That reminds me. Have you tried FAGE (pronounced “fa-yeh”) greek yogurt? We’re hooked on the 0% (non-fat) with a little (and I mean very little) sugar [...]

Anyone else hear Agave is closing?
January 18th, 2010 · 9 Comments
Agave Southwestern Grille on Capitol Drive never did float my boat. A friend e-mailed this weekend to say they are closing. The story says Joe Bartolotta bought the building and will be opening something there. No word about Mr. B’s in Stonewood just down the road.
Most of you know I don’t eat out much, so [...]

Not your momma’s pot roast
January 2nd, 2010 · 5 Comments
Growing up in Oklahoma, the Sunday pot roast was a thing of legend. Fall-apart tender and heaped with mashed potatoes, green beans, and my personal favorite, dry cottage cheese, the dish still creates all kinds of warm fuzzies when served.
The problem is, I never learned how to make it.
My mother was young when she married, [...]

Cranberry bread

Only four more recipes to type! I ran across this one I’d made just last week and thought you needed it. This loaf is a wonderful hostess gift. It’s breakfast the next morning. I wrap it in plastic wrap and tie it with a ribbon.
