…a desktop PC would be able to crack the password I use for this blog. My e-mail password is 117 days, so I’m about to change that.
The discovery is from howsecureismypassword.net.
Here’s a little bit of trivia: Super Creepy Stalker Guy once told me when I started blogging that he could set up a program to crack my password in a couple of hours.
I kid you not.
Passwords are important. Ask Sarah Palin.
Interesting. My blog password is 417 years, but my financial one is 5 years. I would have thought the reverse. My variation on my blog password would take 164 thousand years.
Have to work on my financial password, I guess.
Fifteen thousand years for the one account that I never ever use for anything important. On the other hand, I’ve just given the information to complete strangers, gratis. Probably shortened the curve, don’t ya think?
You’re right! What a buzz kill.
I put in about 20 different tries to find good ones.
Follow the link that gives password tips. They were good. I’ll be reworking all of mine over the next few days.
For my web server, my root password is 256 characters long. I use a random password generator. The same length applies for other high-risk sites. According to that website, it would take 3 quadrillion years for a desktop to get my server password.
For other sites, they vary. I have one password I use on most internet sites.
I know of people who use a random password generator for each site, then write down the passwords in a notebook. While that would be a good method, I’d have to keep the notebook under lock and key in case someone breaks into my house.
I think I just took the cake.
907 billion years for someone to crack mine.
You know, I heard somewhere that the universe would implode on itself in 15 billion years.
Greg, sorry you landed in spam. BTW, I think quadrillion is bigger than billion.
I will say according to your last note, it’s unlikely to matter.
mine is 17 sextillion years sooo….
