The Elmbrook school board connived with chiropractors all across the city to have graduation in the field house today.
I guarantee you there are dozens of folks out there with a back as sore as mine. I sure missed having a real seat.
Graduation was great. Food after was great. The graduate chose a menu of hamburgers stuffed with goat cheese, fruit salad, and this antipasto pasta salad. Dessert was the cake I posted yesterday. I whisked the leftover quarter to the neighbor’s next door to keep us out of it the rest of the day.
I’ll admit I got all teary at the ceremony, but it wasn’t because of my lovely daughter. I doubt I’ll ever write it. Some things just stay in your heart longer than others, that’s all.
Congratulations to the graduates of Brookfield East 2010. You all did a wonderful job.
Did you see me there, I was operating the remote controlled cameras?
I got to work today with filming graduation, with the district’s new TriCaster program, which is basically a box with different inputs and outputs, along with a computer program for recording live video and such. And it costs around $8,000.
No! I’m sorry I missed you.
New toys are always fun. It’s even better if someone else foots the bill and you still get to play. My sons both did AV stuff. I guess we’re just a family of junkies.
Yeah, and unfortunately, I learned we’re ending daily announcements next year due to the new myElmbrook system. myElmbrook will deliver individualized announcements to parents and students, so there will be no need for the announcements anymore. We’ll most likely be switching to a monthly program to recognize student accomplishments.
The six kids headed into military service got me all misty. After that announcement, I wanted to hug them all.
Same here Kathryn.
Congrats to your daughter, Cindy! And, to all the Elmbrook graduates! I got misty eyed this past week at my daughter’s 5th grade graduation so I can imagine how I will be at the high school ceremony.
How does one ‘graduate’ from the fifth grade?
Randy – in these parts we run a grade school to the 5th grade and and then put 6th, 7th, and 8th graders into a middle school. Though there may not be distinct ceremonies out of 5th grade (heck, I don’t know, maybe there are!) it’s still a right of passage. Especially when you deal with the reality of middle school starting before the sun comes up.
Those three years are brutal.
That’s pretty much what did me in, but it’s very complicated.
Little Claire Palmer has been a smiling face around here for years. It’s hard to believe she’s headed to the Air Force Academy. For you regular readers, this guy is also a graduate from there.
I know a lot of seniors next year will also be heading off to serve our country.
Randy,
Cindy is right. It’s really more of a farewell from elementary school and they do get a certificate stating that they have indeed completed 5th grade. The middle school principal comes and says a few words about what to expect at middle school and then we eat cake and watch a slide show composed of pictures from Kindergarten through 5th grade. It’s the slide presentation that got me misty eyed. That and saying goodbye to some really wonderful teachers and staff. Also, this is my youngest child so I really won’t have reason to be at the elementary school now.
