While I’m sure others will find (uhem) various creative uses for such a tool on a telephone, I’m hoping to take the new iPhone4 feature to the bank by editing travel video on the fly. (I will. Someday I’ll be able to get on with my life and start the next phase of blogging without dragging a disgruntled attorney/developer around.) The 5m pixel photo with L.E.D. flash should be helpful, too. I sure hope there’s an easy and absolute way to turn to flash off, though. Some of the places a tourist goes won’t allow flash photos.
The price points listed were exactly as I expected. I have a 16 gig 3G now and haven’t come close to filling it up. I suppose that will be much easier with the video features, so I’ll probably spring for the 32 gig iPhone4.
I admit I’ll never get used to typing on a tiny little screen, but I’ll also admit to doing my share of blogging from my current device. It’s been a pleasure to own.
Also, be wary about budgeting for the media touted new AT&T wireless plan. A representative assured me the other day the iPhone plans will remain unlimited, it’s the other wireless options that are going to be tiered. I sure hope he was right. So far nothing is on the AT&T website indicating a change. Even so, my data usage is relatively low since I take advantage of a lot of wifi. I’m pretty sure that even under a limit it’s doable.
The only thing I’ve never satisfactorily figured out is AT&T usage abroad. For international travel I always put the phone on airplane mode and activate the wifi separately. I have to say I felt pretty savvy making Skype calls from the wifi option from both Italy and Guatemala.
So will you get the new one? How many of you picked up the iPad? I know at least one of you loves toys like this as much as I do. Anyone else?
Its going to be my post-boards gift to myself!
I like the iPhone, but my BlackBerry is just fine for me. It has the one thing an iPhone will never have – a physical keyboard!
I don’t miss a physical keyboard at all – complete waste of space on the device AFAIC.
I will be getting two of these (and yes, I have a 32 GB iPad 3G) to replace my 3GS and my wife’s 3G. FaceTime only works on Wifi for now, but it looks awesome. My buddy who’s at WWDC (I skipped it this year due to lack of content for IT reasons) says the new screen’s absolutely phenomenal.
Cindy, the new data plans absolutely affect iPhones. I think you can grandfather in, Engadget agrees with me: http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/02/atandt-makes-sweeping-changes-to-data-plans-iphone-tethering-comi/
I can, but the two I am picking up for the kids – they can’t. I’ll be really bummed if that’s the case, because I called specifically to put unlimited plans on their current phones in order for them to be eligible.
I’ll guess I’ll just wait and see.
Think about it though…if this is AT&T’s way of getting the data hogs off the grid, it won’t be very effective if the data hogs are grandfathered in. I guess it will help to limit new ones, though.
Could always email Randall Stephenson from AT&T. Oh wait…
http://www.macrumors.com/2010/06/07/iphone-4-hands-on-reviews-and-first-impressions/ has me drooling. Salivating. I love my 3GS but will be buying the new one as soon as I can get my hands on one (I have a private plan but it’s tied to a corporate “foundation account” so I probably have to go through the AT&T Store)…
Oops. I’m reading more that looks like my nice man at AT&T was lying to me. Now why does that not surprise me?
Still, for $5 less per month than you are currently paying for unlimited data, you get 2GB of data, which is enough for 98% of their users.
But T-Mobile’s BlackBerry plan is the best. It includes, for $24.99, unlimited data, email support, and (get this) internet tethering. It’s not listed as a feature on their website, but if you get a compatible BlackBerry with Desktop Manager, you can do it at no additional cost.
