Brookfield, what a waste of your tax dollars

We have a new Economic Development coordinator. We might as well all drive down Calhoun Road and throw a $20 at city hall.

Will someone please explain to me why this position is necessary? The Development office costs Brookfield a lot of money every year, but there’s not much work to take up their time. I still think Director of Community Development Dan Ertl, or even the Mayor, should have fulfilled this job description instead of a new hire.

These positions are smoke and mirrors. I got a great big belly laugh out of the Milwaukee 7 press release that they’d brought sooo many jobs to Milwaukee. Good grief. Every job around here has already been claimed 2 or 3 times by other agencies. You’d think we were the hiring capital of the Midwest. Oh, and by the way, M7 wants to raise $7 million to do their job. (Anyone want to guess what that director’s – and Brookfield resident’s – cut will be? The man isn’t known for his frugal lifestyle.)

In short, throw them the money. We’re evidently dumb enough as voters to keep playing this game, or they’d stop doing it. As always, no one to blame but ourselves. For the record City of Brookfield, I think you’re wasting my contribution. It’s just one more place you’ll have a hard time convincing me my taxes need to be raised around budget time next November.

So what is Mr. Ertl’s job as “Director of Community Development?” Does that not include “economic development?” It seems like a duplication of positions, ergo, waste of my tax dollars.
