Start training for great travel photos

My favorite purchase of this week has been this $15 book: Transcending Travel – A guide to Captivating Travel Photography. It’s an e-book, done exceptionally well in pdf format, and has some knockout photos.

More importantly, it’s a very understandable quick course in getting to know your digital SLR. Much of the information will transfer to a digital point and shoot as well.

For me, the clearly written tutorial on lenses made this purchase worthwhile. I have been confused for about a year on the concept of a “fast” lens and why it would matter. Also reassuring was that my smaller sensor is just fine. I really don’t need to spend money on a new full-frame camera right now.

What I do need to do is get my backside out of bed to take advantage of the morning light. This book reminded me of the importance of shooting on your own when in a group – even if it means losing a little beauty sleep. That’s when you get fun stuff like this shot:

fast lenses give you greater control over things like depth of field … has to do with ability to capture low light levels at higher shutter speeds .. etc….

nothing is the same anymore in the world of digital cameras…. in the end it’s a matter of personal taste on exposure, lighting etc., but selecting the right equipment is imperative in controlling quality…. kodak used to publish an excellent series of books on photography…. i dont’ know if they still do but regardless of technology style form and function are the same today as yesterday.
