As tempted as I was to turn in my apron, I stopped by Fresh Market on the way home from not buying bedspreads at Boston Store. They had corn on sale, so corn was obvious. We haven’t had corn on the cob in ages, mainly because I’m too lazy to shuck it and everyone else just expects it to be silk free and properly steamed on the grill. (Grrr. This line isn’t going to go well, so I’m changing my attitude now.)
At first I thought we’d do goat cheese hamburgers. That’s where two very thin patties surround a slice of goat cheese, get all sealed up, and thrown on the grill. Then I remembered I had tenderloin in the fridge, so instead I’ve decided on steak burgers with goat cheese on top. (I’ve really been into goat cheese this week. Can you tell?) Fresh Market had these beautiful Kaiser rolls we’ll use as a bun. I picked up some 0% FAGE yogurt to have with blueberries for dessert.
Basically, if you are keeping track, it’s the same dinner as last night in a different form. The corn was meal instead of on the cob, the meat was overcooked which is why I’m trying again, and there’s bread. The goat cheese was in the polenta instead of on the steak. Yes, I’ve become hopelessly dull.
Oh, I meant to mention, the youngest picked up the Roundy’s version of an artisan bread last night at Pick N Save. Man was it good! And the price was only $2.99 for the loaf with your store card. It appears they are making an attempt to capture the specialty bread market from that other they used to sell. I’ve been paying $5 a loaf at farmer’s market, and to be honest, the PnS version was better last night.
I still need to get with it and start making my own. I used to do it all the time in college, but really haven’t caught the bug again. I sent my breadmaker home with Son #2 since I didn’t use it much. I like crusty bread, and the bread machine just didn’t cut it. (Or make it fun to cut!)
That’s the checking in for today. I may have to nap to get myself ready for kitchen duty this evening.
