A lawsuit (and life in general) update

It’s been right about a year since someone filed a lawsuit against me. In short, not much has happened in that year!

When this thing is all over, I’ll explain the ins and outs of insurance companies and lawsuit mechanics. Learning that system has been some rollercoaster. It’s also been part of the reason we’re a year out instead of six months or so. But, it’s been interesting and I won’t mind sharing someday.

There’s a motion hearing to have the lawsuit dismissed at the end of June. Aside from insurance stuff and a scheduling hearing there’s not been much judge time; it’s really the first time a judge will look at the lawsuit on its merits. I’m hopeful, but I’ll let you know then of the outcome of that hearing.

There have been several depositions taken by the plaintiff over the last few weeks. I really can’t say much more. Expect a wonderful tell-all when this thing is over. And someday, like the sun comes up in the east, it will indeed be over.

I am waiting until this wraps up to set up a new blogging arrangement. I’m beginning to think that even if it’s over in June I’ll wait until October or so to get things going on the travel site. I’ll consider reinvigorating Fairly Conservative before then to get news out with regard to our November 2012 elections. I’m watching the news and the other bloggers and I really do think they are missing a lot of interesting opportunities. I admit I’m itching to get back into the game.

While putting FC to sleep was a personal decision and not one really driven by the lawsuit, I have to say it’s been good for me.

The travel blog has the potential to be amazing. I’m still very happy with the niche it will be filling and confident it will prove worthwhile. I’m sketching out the total business plan, but I’ve decided after years of being a blog hobbyist, it’s time to move forward. All that can wait until this mess is over.

Also catching my attention is the idea of separating Brookfield news and running a unique site with that. I do think sitting in the sidelines a little while has opened my eyes to incredible potential there. The current local news website is slacking. I can take advantage of that.

The youngest received enrollment details today. All of this is great timing. Although I’m certainly at a transition, the future looks so bright, I am genuinely enthused.

So in short, is getting sued a bad thing? Probably not. It’s inconvenient, but not much more. I am fortunate to have generous family and friends and a wonderful list of dedicated readers. Life most certainly goes on.

All done. You are as up to date as I can make you, and I will even share I did, in fact, spend a half hour on that closet today. I’ve decided to pace myself. :)

  1. Sounds like a plan. I vote yes.

Some may vote ‘present’ — they would be the ones’ with aspirations for higher office.

Randy, you never miss a beat to make a bad joke. :)

What amazing grace you demonstrate in your trials. Good job, girl…

  5. Cindy,

Have you checked this out yet? http://www.ricochet.net/

If you are interested in getting back into WI/US political blogging this sort of format might be something to consider.

I don’t know what the technical challenges are, but we could probably come up with a list of smart contributors pretty easily :)

    Food for thought.

  6. Cindy says:

Hmmm. Was that a suggestion we collaborate? I’ll have to think through the technical side of that one.

I’d like to see the travel and local news blog. I agree the Brookfield news coverage is slim pickings–I have no interest in school related athletic event coverage but that seems to be the emphasis of Brookfield NOW (along with various PR bulletins from the school board advising how they “restored” this or that discretionary expenditure to the budget.) I’ve kind of given up on the Board members, who talk fiscal conservatism but spend like drunken sailors.

I look forward to the skinny on the whole thing.

  9. How’s that Door County Wilson? I would assume this is the time of year to be there.
