A quick update:
1) I’m chasing down good coffee today. Alterra is up to $10.99 a pound which makes it a dollar a pound cheaper to import from Guatemala. (My other source never came through!) As a final check, I’m making an Aldi’s run today. I remember they had a Guatemalan blend for a very good price, so I’m going to try that one more time in hopes of not having to complicate my life and become a coffee runner.
2) The first heating and air person is heading this way at 8:30 a.m. I’m finally getting around to this. From all those past suggestions, I narrowed it down to four. I guess it’s a bit of a beauty pageant from here. The goal is to be installed by East’s graduation. (I function so much better with a hard deadline.)
3) Someone came home the evening of her 18th birthday with a couple of extra holes in her ear. The bar connecting them is, quite frankly, hideous. Ooooh. Independence and all that.
We did have a brief discussion about her bedtime the other day. I like to sleep, so I’ve always made the kids conform to a reasonable schedule in high school. She offered that I wouldn’t be able to make her do that anymore now that she’s 18.
I asked her to be sure and let me know where she’s living. As long as she’s in this house, she’s in bed at the specified time on a school night.
(I looooooove parenting. Really. I do.)
4) This afternoon will be spent with the plumber. Again. In addition to looking at the failed Kohler faucet, I’m coveting a new garbage disposal. A 3/4 horsepower garbage disposal. I know. It’s not nice to brag.
After all, what more could a girl ask for? We’ll have to wait and see if it actually happens.
Yeah sorry about that. Im knee deep in second year finals! How about later on this summer I get back in touch?
Ok.
Be lucky your daughter is not my cousin. She pierced her nose! And yes, she has a stud in it. But she said it’s starting to hurt, and she’s going to have the stud removed and never put anything in her nose again. My aunt and uncle got a book on parenting during college years, and there’s a full chapter called “You Pierced WHAT?”
I’m honestly not sure how some people who wake up at 6:30 for school like me can stay up until 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning, I’m usually tired enough to go to bed by 9.
We like the 3/4 hp Sears disposal that my husband installed. Works like a champ.
We got a very good price on replacing our AC/Furnace with a high efficiency Carrier system a couple years ago, and used the energy tax credit. Used Tom’s Heating from Waukesha. Although I have a lower price on regular servicing from New Berlin Heating/AC, another Carrier dealer. Worth checking out. There were variances in bids by hundreds of dollars. We picked Carrier since we’d had a Carrier system in an older house and it was great. Our utility bills dropped by about 40% with the new system. Be sure to check if you need a flue liner or resizing if your furnace exhausts through your chimney. Ours did not, but a high efficiency furnace that does exhaust through a chimney can cause major problems to the masonry if the flue is not correctly sized and lined.
