There’s dirt under my fingernails

My goodness things have stacked up out there. I’m taking it a few feet at a time right now. It’s kind of fun to be under the crabapple with the petals falling like snow. It is a beautiful morning.

I was chatting with someone who indicated there are five applicants for the 4th district alderman appointment. A really industrious news outlet would get details of that, as well as the anticipated schedule for said appointment, into the community. (Hey, I’m gardening. Not on today’s list of things to do.)

It’s a big birthday week around here. I’ll let you know if anything fun happens.

Tada! The area in the back I see out the kitchen window is all properly groomed, pruned, and ready for the iris to bloom. The roots of the crabapple have been tamed into submission. Lettuce seeds have been planted. Part of an Austrian pine has been pruned – it fell in the first snow last winter.

Totally not cool move? There were two. One was dumping some potting soil in our wild area only to discover I had cleverly filled the bottom of the pot with styrofoam peanuts to let it drain better. I spent a few minutes getting those back up. The other was scraping the heck out of my knuckle when I went to hook up the hose. Ouch! Maybe this is the year I rework all that hose/watering business.

All in all, and off and on, a productive day outside. I’m really dirty now. Guess I better do something about that.
