I knew this was coming; the traffic on Fairly Conservative regarding the subject was really up over the last couple of weeks. I simply wasn’t in the mood to pursue it. The MJS did, though, and you can read what little detail is given there.
Longtime readers might remember my experience wasn’t stellar.
Update 6/3/10 – It looks like Flanner’s is gone for good.
This situation is a bit unique in that their former location is STILL vacant.
I am sorry to hear about another business closing in Brookfield. My only experience with Flanner’s was purchasing a new needle cartridge for our turntable at the old store and my donating my funky old movie titling kit at the new store. (I remembered the owner had an extensive old film media collection at the old store and thought my 1950s kit might find a good home with the owner.)
Oh major bummer. I didn’t know this!!!!
Oh this is worse than that the stinker story about Ridgestone Bank.
Oh no.
Cry.
No no no no!!!!
Their prices were the same as everyone else’s. But it was their SERVICE that stood out. The service delivery guys were excellent. At least for me, my son and my father. We had separate experiences all within a year of one another and each time they were the best retailer.
Bummer … so that $25 certificate I had for cables isn’t worth anything now uh?
Well, they say they are taking a break as they secure new financing. We’ll see if that certificate has any value in a couple of months.
wow. they were once the no. 1 monster cable dealer in the country. they are very well recognized in the av world across the country. I pray that the families and the company survive. tell them to get a hold of me I may have some investors for them.
We had dinner the other nite with folks who are friends with him … John Flanner… they spoke kindly of him … we miss the store….
It’s sad…. I wish the store had reopened … I would have gone in a bought something … just to buy something.
Let’s see …. Midwest Airlines… Flanners…. gawd.. what next?
Oh, Wilson828…do I dare say Harley?
Flanners rocks! I miss working for them. Dont worry, they will be back sooner than you think. They are just taking a well deserved break after 118 years.
Well, according to their website there could be some deals starting this week. I may have to check it out.
Indeed I was told there was activity in the building and I should check it out. I’m a little sidetracked right now, so if someone has details, it’s time to share!
Look at their website, which is still up. Yep, there’s a sale.

Turns out, Flanner’s was bought by the Felker Group, who controls Colder’s. They are reopening the store after their tent sale September 8th. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/business/101577273.html?page=2#comments
