Well there you go. I’ve held off on linking to these leaks thinking it wasn’t the real thing. I didn’t want it to be! You see, I’m planning on picking one up, but I think this is UUUUUUGLY. (My contract expires in a week, so I’ll have to wait a little while extra for the expected June release.)
So sad. However! I was also in the hunt for new noise cancelling headphones, and it looks like this little toy might have it already built in. That would be ever so good.
Anyone using the 3GS? Mine’s one version back. The youngest insists she wants the 3GS no matter what comes out. I’m trying to decide if that’s a good decision or not.
as soon as someone other than ATT gets it .. i will too
Ha. First off my word was “hooters”. Awesome.
I use a 3G and marvel at the speed of the 3GS, its really a big step forward. I dont think it makes a huge difference for the casual user though. I get along just fine with the “slow” phone.
The 4G looks like crap. So boxy and way less slick looking. The front facing camera will be cool but i think iChat will be way to slow over ATT and will probly only be useful over WiFi.
If you are going to buy a 3Gs for the kid, wait until the new one comes out! OR you can buy my 3G right now if you really want!
That’s my point, too. Wait until the next one comes out. I’m not getting very far with the argument though. Her birthday is in a couple of weeks.
I’m going to see if there’s an upgrade option, but if not, I’ll probably dig in my heals. I’m content with my 3G now and will wait.
I thought it too boxy, too. Maybe it’s not the real thing and we’ll be saved.
Apple sent a letter to Gizmodo, who got a hold of the device, saying that yes, the device is something Apple is working on. They also asked Gizmodo to return the device.
Who is to say that’s the industrial design the unit will have when it releases? Especially now that it’s been seen/photographed/documented? I’ve worked with prototype equipment with the cases slagged together, but the final product looked nothing like the prototype.
I have a 3GS, wife has a 3G, and I manage a fleet of 30+ of these at work . I am a power user, held off going from the original iPhone 2G to a new phone until the 3GS and very glad I did. I use the speed/more RAM all of the time and the video camera function’s recorded some very special moments.
Really silly to get a 3GS now. The next gen will also have a much higher res display and will be faster still than the 3GS. Heck, can always end up buying a used 3G/3GS from an upgrader in late June. 2 months is not long to wait. Can always give the daughter an “IOU” card.
Oh, I expect the iPhone to be offered soon on other networks, but T-Mobile is far likelier than Verizon, since TMo uses the global GSM standard rather than the mostly-US CDMA that Verizon/Sprint/US Cellular use. VZW is moving towards 4G which is more GSM-like – expect the iPhone to finally make its debut on their network once that gets widely available…
This interesting quote from Apple’s financial analyst call yesterday (they made a boatload of money again in a down economy): “Three main countries where Apple has a contractual exclusive relationship: U.S., Germany and Spain. A few smaller countries have exclusive or co-exclusive, but those three are the major ones. Over the past year they’ve moved a number of markets to non-exclusive. In each case they’ve seen unit growth accelerate and market share improve. “That’s our learning so far, that’s the results that we’ve seen so far. We think very carefully about each of these at the country level to conclude what’s in our best interest,” Tim Cook said.”
Actually Apple never admits it was something they are/were working on. Only that it belongs to Apple. Copy of the letter is here – http://socialmediaseo.net/2010/04/20/apple-letter-to-gizmodo-full-letter/
ZB, thanks for a concrete reply.
I suppose you’re right, it might be a working prototype in a different box. That design is so not Apple.
Apples earnings announcement was awesome. Did I ever tell you the story about buying AAPL at $15? Sold it when we’d made a decent profit. Oh, well. Can’t predict ‘em all.
What’s funny is I work with Apple products/technology daily (including doing contract IT support for Apple), and have for the past 15+ years. Stock was cheap in ’97 when Jobs returned and everyone figured they were dead. Went up hugely. Stock fell to ~$80 in January of ’09 when Jobs went on administrative leave – I KNEW it was time to invest, didn’t have the $. Wish I did. Company is on a roll right now, stock’s around $250/share and going up to $300+ before the end of the year.
Tell the daughter not to focus on how the new phone looks, since that may change, but on the video chat and 4x resolution features, on top of the increased performance. A 2 year commitment is a long time, and the new phone is worth waiting for…
I had not been able to sell the wait on the resolution, but I think I will be able to score some points on the concept of video chat. She’s rather fond of Skype already. I know I’m looking forward to the option. (Except, Oh God, I don’t want to think of all the wrong ways that feature could be used!)
Is this the daughter that’s leaving the state? Video chat for you and her (Jetsons promise finally revealed, flying cars to come next?)
Back to investor info on Apple, this graph shows it pretty well:

Compromised reached.
Saw this today, and thought of this thread. :banghead:

Maybe we should start a line for those who wish to jump.
A group of detectives in California raided the editor of Gizmodo, Jason Chen’s, house with a search warrant to collect and search all computers for iPhone leak related photos, videos, etc.
