America is either on the verge of something great or about to jump off a cliff depending upon your perspective. Flipping channels I heard one of those MSNBC types proclaim something along the lines that “at long last America will have universal health care.”
Huh?
While no one is certain what’s in the mess they’ll be voting over the weekend, I’m pretty darn sure it’s not universal health care. I am frankly amused (much nicer way of saying laughing my ass off) that so many proponents of this scheme have no idea how it will affect them.
As for me, I know my wallet’s at risk. Oh well. It’s only money. In the next few years, though, my choices for health care will diminish. Already a couple of the doctors I’ve used are talking about packing it in or going completely off the system. I will admit one doctor I go to is already practicing this way. I pay him $85 for a very decent chunk of his time, he works with me to manage a long-term health issue, I go back in six months or a year depending on how things are going.
It won’t be long until that’s illegal because someone starts whining they don’t have an extra $85 to spend on health care. Surprise! It’s all going for extra taxes. Until then, expect a second tier of health care to emerge as it has done in every other nation that’s gone down this road.
Find a Brit. Ask them about the street everyone heads to when they can’t get in for scheduled care.
Ask a Canadian Premier why his heart surgery was better done in the United States.
Foolish America. You don’t even know what’s behind Door Number 3. But you’re willing to bet everything you have to open it.
Or maybe there’s a third route–that no matter what happens, one bill can’t dismantle our democracy that was so carefully constructed to prevent against something as such.
If this is evil and unconstitutional, history will even it out. If not, it’s going to help a whole lot of people.
Seems like you’re trying real hard to get people to respond emotionally here–but most Americans know the implicit truth, that Obama can’t destroy the US any more than Bush or Andrew Jackson for that matter.
To the boogeymen, I quote Frost: “In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.”
Tell that to all those fallen countries. It happens. Yes, life will go on, but the quality of that life? That remains to be seen.
Did Germans rise against Hitler prior to his leadership that created that country’s undoing? Your a student of history. You’re simply being selective to state it can’t happen.
And why in the world are you for something when you don’t know what that something actually will be?
I know what it is–I’m just not taking the time to persuade someone who doesn’t really value my opinions.
Give me a ring if you really want to know my reasons, you know the #.
A very small part of me wants the Dems to pass this Bill because the process has been reprehensive and the content is …well nobody really knows but I suspect most Americans are not going to like it. This will assure a Democratic purge this Fall and probably push Obama much closer to becoming Carter # 2 and a one-term President. But wait, defeating the Bill will likely have the same effect.
Hey, Randy! Where ya been? Kinda missed you around here lately.
It’s the calvary!
And Lorax, you’re right. I really don’t care. If you don’t have the chutzpah to lay it out here, I doubt you actually have a reason. It’s just what you’ve been told to think to maintain your cool-guy badge.
Lorax
‘Go raibh maith agat’ for the kinda missing. Been on the road, mostly in New England, traveling with a national concert tour group. In fact they are headed your way–sans me. It was a wonderful experience and my first foray into the northeast.
The bottom line is that I’m going to have to pay for it.
The issue remains, that a band aid costs $403 and an aspirin cost $1028. That’s the issue.
Influencing factors remain litigation – needed tort reform. Insurance companies. Greed. It’s a collection of issues.
I quick review of the health care bill I looked for something that will benefit me in this deal. I’m not sure if I saw anything I understood.
Here’s a deal though .. make me King and I’ll fix healthcare, the airline industry and put the stuffing back in Oreo cookies! I promise!
Wilson
We already have a king.
Well look on the bright side. Just think of all the jet fuel that will be saved when all these foreign dignitaries won’t be flying to America for their surgeries.
Thanks for the vote of confidence Cindy–I wear my cool guy badge everywhere I go =D
