Where’d that weekend go?
We started Saturday morning with Mass as St. Patrick’s church in Milwaukee. Archbishop O’Listecki presided. It was the first time I’d been to one of his masses. Bless him, he was falling into Archbishop Dolan’s shoes, and he knew it. I think he did a great job. It will be interesting to see him grow into the position.
Two things about the Mass: 1) I tear up around bagpipes. I don’t know why. It’s goofy, I know, but it happens. 2) I’m completely amused by the position of MC – at least I think that’s what he’s called, help me out if you know what it stands for – which I will simplify by calling the beanie minder. Miter was on. Miter was off. Tail of Miter was twisted. Skull cap tried to come off when Miter was lifted; Miter wouldn’t collapse properly, Miter wouldn’t unfold properly.
There was a whole lot of that Mass devoted to a hat.

Following Mass was breakfast at the ICHC. Scones. Yummy, yummy scones. And other stuff, but did I mention the scones?
(This is where I will confess we wimped out and did not stay for the parade. Son #2 marched with the Hibernians, which makes him the hardiest member of this Irish transplant family.)

The remainder of the weekend has been consumed by gluing things. Every year about this time things that were happily in one piece start to fall apart. It must be the end of winter in a dry environment. They find a place in the basement until the glue and brush come out. This weekend saw one chair, one four-legged stool, one frame, and one small step stool slathered in sticky stuff and clamped. (I have inherited a wicked affection for clamps from my father.) The frame will be released tomorrow. I might paint the chair, too, but I can’t decide on a color.
I also ran across this lamp and shade tutorial on the internet. I downloaded the recommended font and made a donation with my new Paypal account.
There is so much talent out there. It’s really fun to find this kind of stuff. I’m thinking I’ll use the font to paint “put the lid down” en français in the boys’ bathroom. (They would both be able to read it.
) Not that they’re around much any more for it to be a big problem…

That’s it! Here’s to the week ahead. I actually saw one of the weather people use the word “stellar” in the forecast, so I am very hopeful.
Speaking of yummy scones…have you had the mixed berry ones from Outpost? They are delicious!
No, I really try to avoid stuff that is super yummy/addictive and really high in fat. Scones would be on that list.
I make my own once a year or so with Bisquick and blueberries. I did a quick check but can’t find the recipe online. I’ll dig through my printed stash later today.
