Ryan and I have continued our discussion by e-mail, and I must say it's much more pleasant than you are reading here. I'm sorry to take such easy defense to anonymous positions, guys. I'm battle scarred. I admit it.

Getting in touch with me by e-mail is always appreciated.

Right-o new-to-the-area Ryan. I'm making presumptions and you're defending Speaker.

I could lay out all of Colleen's family connections and her interesting history and Jeff's interesting history and the rest of the keep-Jeff network, but you probably wouldn't really like that, would you? You can always keep pushing. Who knows...there are still a few weeks left.

(I have a guess as to your next comment, but I'll wait until you go for it.)

Thanks for the replies... I am new to the area so there is a lot I do not know.

You lose me a bit when you say that "Speaker’s support network will demand something from him for all the years they’ve paid".

You are making a lot of presuppositions there. I am not saying they are not correct; I just don't know.

Who are we talking about here? What evidence do we have that would make such demands? And what evidence do we have that Ponto backers would behave differently?

While I'm at it...

Did anyone find the article in the paper oddly written? There was so much focus on the Town of Brookfield's tax increases, but absolutely no numbers given as to the City of Brookfield's tax increases under Jeff Speaker in the same time frame. Quite the gimme to Speaker by the reporter if you ask me.

Come on. You're the real paper. For goodness sakes, try harder!

Lesser of two evils - maybe... but yes the disruption will be worth it down the road.

I'm not being mean when I say Jeff Speaker isn't that smart. Jeff Speaker is really challenged, especially after his under the Schwan's truck wreck. He had a family push and some backers buy his place so they could have influence.

What's about to happen - and we'll be seeing some of it very soon - is that the very well trained and proficient staff (ok, all except two guys ;) ) who have been at city hall through the years are going to retire now that pensions are back up. Jeff Speaker could be filling spots instead of relying upon those chosen by Kate Bloomberg.

When that comes to pass, we'll be glad for someone like Ponto in the corner office rather than Speaker. Speaker's support network will demand something from him for all the years they've paid. It could be a mess.

Ryan: For me, the Kerry/Gore analogy applies to this race. Lesser of two evils.

It seems like a lot of what you write about Ponto is either less than glowing or saying that he and Speaker are essentially the same (or, as in this case, both). So what exactly are your reasons for supporting Ponto? Why is it worth the disruption of changing mayors to install Mr. Ponto? Is Speaker really that bad?
