More about the mayor’s race

Yes, I’m breaking a rule or two, but it needs to be said…

There is no extraordinary candidate here. I have mentioned before, both on that other blog and in comments on BrookfieldNOW, that Steve Ponto’s Brookfield is going to look exactly like Jeff Speaker’s Brookfield, but Steve isn’t embarrassing. Jeff Speaker is a couple of fries short of a happy meal when it comes to logical ability. It often shows.

Dave Marcello (aka David) is a rotten option. Oh, he’s talking the talk, but listen, how hard did he work towards that 1.5% goal of his as a school board member? Exactly. He has no intention of following through. Anyone who believes him is a fool. He needs the stable income this office would provide. That’s why he’s running.

Tom Schellinger is Tom Schellinger. There’s not much to say. You can look back on the half a dozen times he’s run for something, the couple of times he’s actually won, and match that up to the nothing he’s accomplished.

Under the current selection of candidates you can bet your last dime Brookfield is going to have this rail thing. It’s going to be grossly misguided when it comes to development and the subsidizing of that development by your tax dollars. It’s going to continue to stash funds under the guise of prudent spending but always take what the state limits allow. It’s eventually going to have another interchange off I-94.

All you get to choose is embarrassing or not. Slow-brained slumlord vs. attorney who took early retirement to fulfill his dream of public service. Not hard for me.

Cindy. Today I was out putting up signs and meeting residents. My friends were very receptive and Steve Ponto made a very good impression. To me their is no comparison between Steve and the other good people who are running. And I know them all. Now is the time to give Steve positive support. I agree that a dream of public service is honorable.

  2. RMS says:

I’m glad to see Dick has mastered his mouse.

I like Ponto, but one correction: his early retirement was a buy out…not exactly a voluntary move.

  3. Cindy says:

I don’t know that for sure. All I know is he’s 62, he’s running for mayor, and he’s recently retired as a corporate attorney. (My dad retired earlier than that! It happens for all kinds of reasons.)

I also know he’s spent a lot of years tied to local politics.

  4. El gato says:

Ponto is a dodger when asked any question of importance. His mouth moves, sounds come out, but nothing intelligible is heard. Voting for the “lesser of two evils” is not on my agenda anymore.
The judge was part of “the system” and his recommendation is worthless to me. It like it’s coming from Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

  5. Cindy says:

Indeed, I hear a lot of voters are heading Speaker’s way after the forums. “Better the devil you know” is the chant. I never said Ponto’s policies would be better than Speaker’s, just that we would not have to be embarrassed any longer by our half-brained mayor.

The judge may have been part of the system, but I would not label him an insider. Not at all.

  6. BrkfldDad says:

Ah, but the world is run by ‘C’ students! I find Ponto to be a bit standoff-ish and that strikes a nerve. Honestly, for me, it’s Clinton-Dole all over again. Sure I’ve got choices, but I really don’t want to vote for any of them.

  7. Cindy says:

Ok. Fine. Let’s just boycott the primary and see what shakes out. (And Speaker would be a “C” student on a very good day. Like twice a year or so.)

  8. BrkfldDad says:

:) If boycotting meant anyone without 50% of the primary votes is dropped, then I am in! Then again, it’d probably mean an empty ballot come election time.

  9. Cindy says:

How about I write in “BrkfldDad.”

  10. Anonymous says:

Edit: My blog anonymous. You don’t get to insult me here. I get to make up my own rules.

(Original IP shows Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company as the owner.)

  11. El gato says:

Cindy, I love your block and note to Anonymous!

  12. The Lorax says:

Hi there, El gordo… miss you!

  13. BrkfldDad says:

I’d love to see that vote total in the news! And one write-in vote each for BrkfldDad, Batman and Mickey Mouse :)

I wish I had to stomach for local politics. For now, I’ll be happy if Tommy steps in and knocks off Russ.
