Anyone else hear Agave is closing?

Agave Southwestern Grille on Capitol Drive never did float my boat. A friend e-mailed this weekend to say they are closing. The story says Joe Bartolotta bought the building and will be opening something there. No word about Mr. B’s in Stonewood just down the road.

Most of you know I don’t eat out much, so it’s really of little consequence to me. I will thank Agave for one thing – my favorite Mayor Jeff Speaker story ever. You can read it in the first link above.

It wouldn’t surprise me–I know they’ve been having financial problems. But in Brookfield, rumors about shitty restaurants going out are a dime a dozen. That’s because we have so many of ‘em.

I’m glad to hear that rat-hole Houlihan’s is finally closing, too.

As for Mr. B’s–they’d have to be pretty unhappy at Stonewood in order to leave. Didn’t they just make huge investments in a party space? Plus, they’ve poured lots and lots of money into that space.

I believe Mr. B’s is moving from its current location in Stonewood Village to the Agave building. It’s my understanding that Mr. B’s would close in its current location in mid-January (probably closed by now) and re-open in the Agave space in mid-February (probably targeting to be open by Valentine’s weekend).

I guess that surprises me. I didn’t think Agave had nearly the footprint the Stonewood Mr. B’s had, but I’m rotten at estimating square footage.

Also, I received an e-mail from another source saying about the same thing.

Agave is actually much larger than Mr. B’s. It’s pretty much a done deal. Agave will close and then be remodeled. About 2-3 weeks before it’s to open, B’s will close and move to the new building. It’s not going to be on Anonymous’ timeline. If you go online B’s is taking reservations well into March. I don’t think this will be quick.

Well, for whatever it is worth, OnMilwaukee has a piece on this story. Not much new, but could be a bookmark for future updates to this story.

D, I saw that! I have onmilwaukee on my feed reader now for the travel thing. There may not be anything new to say about this one.

That stinks..Are they closed already? We got a gift card there that was bought in Decemeber…They knew they were going under by then why did they sell it??

  8. Cindy says:

Oooh. That would get my goat! It’s a Pandl’s restaurant. Maybe you still have recourse?
